Can another dog help my anxious, fearful, or lazy dog improve?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 2 years and 8 months old | 64 lbs

Would getting another dog help Ginger become less anxious and less lazy? (When she’s at the dog park she copies other dogs and wants to play with them, she’s just a little slow). She also is afraid of a lot of things so would getting another dog bring her out of her shell?

This is a tough question to answer. Some dogs do much better with another dog around, and some do better alone. It depends on Ginger's personality. If she likes to play and gets along with other dogs, she might enjoy the company. If she is afraid of a lot of things, the best thing you can do is get her out into different environments as much as possible. The more she experiences in a positive way, with treats and affection, the more comfortable she will become with new things.
