Is my dog's occasional cough, runny eyes, and itchiness serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 9 years and 11 months old | 4 lbs

Is an occasional cough troublesome? Precious just lets out 1 cough not coughing repeatedly. During her annual I was told she had mucus in her throat & she was given an antibiotic shot & her breathing(low whistle sound) & things cleared up. Could it be back due to the weather, it’s cold? She’s also itchy & has runny eyes. i plan on taking her in on Tuesday & scehiljng her dental for Thursday if everything is fine or should I wait?

A cough can be respiratory or heart related. I would make sure that Precious does not have a heart murmur. If she does I would consider either a cardiologist or x-ray prior to the dental procedure. It is not normal for an occasional cough but ruling between respiratory and heart will help narrow down what is going on with Precious.
