My senior Lhasa Apso is limping. How to treat patellar luxation pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Lhasa Apso | Female | spayed | 11 years and 11 months old | 15 lbs

My Lhasa Apso is around eleven years old she had started limping! We have researched some genetic health problems with that breed! We believe it is Patellar luxation. What medications are available to help pain and possibly treat?

You really should take Macy to your veterinarian for an exam to find out why she is limping. Considering she is quite old she is likely to have osteoarthritis, which is quite painful. There are other conditions such as patellar luxation, trauma or even bone cancer that can cause pain and limping. Your vet can take an x-ray if needed and determine the cause of the pain and then decide which pain medicine is most suitable for your dog.
