My cat is always hungry but is a healthy weight. Should I feed more?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 4 months old | 7 lbs

I feed Julian both wet and dry food, in the quantities recomnended by the food producers for his weight (4kg), but he always seems starving and is begging for more food. He would eat practically anything, including vegetables! He looks good and fit, not too thin and not at all fat, but he seems famished... He eats 1 wet food package Hills young sterilized adult + 40-45 g dry food Go Care Royal for sterilized adults per day, divided in 2 meals. Should I give him more?

If Julian's weight seems appropriate and your vet has confirmed that his body condition is ideal you should not offer more food. Some cats have big appetites and will continually beg for food even though they are getting enough calories. If ignoring the begging is difficult you could look into using an automatic feeder for the dry food, or try hiding smaller amounts of dry food around the house so he has to 'hunt' for his meals.
