My dog has a neck cut after being with another dog. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | spayed | 5 years and 11 months old | 10 lbs

My dog has what seems like a cut on her neck . We recently stayed at a family’s house who have a dog and took my dog with me. I don’t know if it was caused by the dog or something else. Should I be worried? Is there anything I can do to make the healing faster? Thanks

I would recommend clipping and cleaning the area as you can't really see much with all the fur, then apply antibiotic cream on it 2-3 times a day. if it doesn't get any better within 72 hours i would recommend taking her to your vet to get ti treated.

A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. The cut is superficial but stitches will help to speed up recovery time. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching.
