Hi, I'm pet sitting for a dog I've pet sit before. She was abused before she came to the owner and she was good with me the last time I was here. I'm trying to go upstairs and let her out but she keeps barking and growling. How would you suggest I calm her

This sounds like a difficult situation. You could certainly try distracting her with some treats to see if she will relax around you. Toss a few towards her first and then see if she’ll take one from you. I’m not sure what the layout is in the house - if you could simply leave doors open to allow her to come out on her own that might be the safest thing to do. If she continues to growl and bark you should be very cautious when approaching her since it sounds like she is fearful and could bite. You might also want to try contacting her owners to see if they have suggestions.
