My dog is overweight and not losing weight. What food should I feed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed | 7 years and 8 months old | 95 lbs

Dahlia was on Royal Canin and was pooping only every three days. It was very expensive and she lost about 10 lbs. She weighs 96 lbs. The vet wanted her at 80. Now eating small meals and using ProPlan and Nutrish. Not losing any weight

Specialist weight loss diets are the most effective way to manage weight issues as they are designed to provide all nutrients required, promote fat loss and maintain muscle mass whilst also allowing the dog to feel full. Reducing weight on standard foods is very difficult and requires feeding of approximately two thirds of the recommended amount, based on target weight which can leave patients hungry
