Dog has a bump by his ear. Is it a tumor, bug bite, or something else?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hello. This bump turned up on near my dog’s ear. Is it something to worry about like a tumour or some irritation or bug bite? We have mosquitoes where we live. He’s not bothered by it and is otherwise healthy.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Lumps and bumps can always be anything, and unless you take a sample and send it for histopathology we cannot know for sure. However, it doesn't look like a wart, it could be a bug bite but it seems a bit more discreet than that, and bug bites are usually itchy. It looks most like a small mole or cyst. I recommend having it checked by your vet next time you are in the clinic. Otherwise just monitor it for now, if it doesn't go away in a couple weeks, or grows, then get it checked sooner. Best of luck with Coco.
