There is a pink spot on the top lip of my dogs mouth. You can see the spot on the first two pictures which were taken today. I don’t know if it might be allergies, etc. but I’ve never seen this before with him. The picture of him sleeping was taken Christmas evening, and you can see that it’s not pink but developing and there. Can anyone please help me and tell me what it is and if I should worry about it or not? Thank you!!!

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any scratching. HI, thanks for using Petcoach! A lot of skin bumps can look the same. From your pictures the pink area looks slightly raised? It could be an abrasion from hitting it or rubbing it on something or it could be a benign growth called a histiocytoma. Histiocytomas are pink hairless button like skin growths that pop up on young dogs. They tend to spontaneously regress on their own in a few months. If the area grows, starts to bother Kimmy or doesn't go away in a few months have it evaluated by your Vet. I hope this helps and I wish you and Kimmy the best! http://www.petmd.com/dog/conditions/skin/c_dg_histiocytoma

This lump/bump/growth should be ideally examined by your local vet to have a diagnosis established. Your vet may want to perform an FNA (fine needle aspiration) or a biopsy to sample the bump and determine its underlying nature. Differentials would include skin cysts, infections, benign or more malignant type of tumors. Hi there, That does not look like acne- which is less common in dogs. That could be an infection that needs antibiotics but could also be a small mass growing on the lip- like a papilloma (wart) or another type of mass. That should be seen by a vet who can take a sample form it and give you either meds or a further recommendation.
