My cat ate a water-expanding toy. Should I be concerned?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I think my cat may have eaten a grow toy and I'm not sure if I should be worried or not. I did some research and it said that grow toys are non-toxic. Should I be worried?

If you mean a toy that expands in water, you are correct that this would not be toxic however I would be concerned about the potential for an intestinal obstruction and would recommend seeing a veterinarian for x-rays. A glow toy or glow stick is also no -toxic but has a very foul taste and can cause vomiting. If any part of a plastic toy was eaten there is risk for intestinal obstruction.
