Is it safe to leave my 2.5-month-old kitten alone for 5 hours?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Korat | Male | neutered | 2 months and 22 days old | 2.8 lbs

I work from home, so I leave my 2 1/2 month old Russian Blue kitten alone for 3 hours at a time on Saturday, then again on Sunday. I have the luxury of staying home during the week for as long as he needs me. At what age will it be fine to leave him alone for an additional 5 hours one weekday per week? He loves to chew on cords, and I just received my cord-covering kit.

Thank you for contacting Pet Coach with your question about Earl Grey (I love his name!). Cats and kittens are much more self reliant than dogs and puppies, as they can use a litter box to attend to their needs. Even at his age, it's fine to leave him alone for five hours. I hope this helps!
