Nausea is very common with kidney disease, so we will common prescribe anti-nausea medications in conjunction with treatment. If Ella is not on fluids, sometimes we will add those in short term to help decrease nausea. If she is difficult to give medication to, sometime we can give anti-nausea medication in the fluids. I would recommend asking your vet about anti-nausea medication and see if that helps her vomiting and increases her appetite. All antihistamines may have the potential to decrease milk production so for this reason if the kittens are young it may be best to avoid the medication. If Kiko truly needs the medication you could discuss pros and cons of continuing with your vet - the benefits may outweigh the risks in her situation.

Poor girl! Yes you can safely give Cerenia and Buprenorphine on the same day and even at he same time, if needed. If she has kidney disease then subcutaneous fluids will also help with that. I know th Cerenia helps with her vestibular disease because it mostly is helping with her nausea. However Cerenia is only safe to give for 5 consecutive days. After that time frame I would suggest asking your vet for motion sickness medication (Dimenhydramine) that can be given long term, if needed. I hope your kitty feels better soon!

A creatinine of 8.6 likely requires hospitalization and medical support through injectable medications. Its unlikely that the oral formulations could take effect or that she will take them orally to help treat her. Most of the time, these patients require multiple medications to combat the kidney disease. In addition to the anti-nausea and appetite stimulant, they require antibiotics, IV fluids and other gastro-protectants. If the kidney disease continues to progress, they may even require dialysis. Ultimately, it sounds like the renal failure may be associated with her FIV, or that her FIV predisposed her to having a severe kidney infection. Your veterinarian may need to check her urine to look for any evidence of bacteria and potentially perform an abdominal ultrasound to asses her kidneys. Poor girl. There is a natural anti-anxiety medication that you can try first before resorting to stronger anxiety medication from your vet. The product is called Zylkene and is available on Amazon.com. Ask your vet if this is appropriate for your pet Sabre to try to reduce her anxiety so that she can continue receiving her much needed treatment for kidney failure. I would also encourage you , if you have not done so already, to keep her on her kidney prescription diet, which is the mainstay treatment for pets with kidney failure.
