Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. Judging from the photos, it is difficult to say for sure what the growth could be. This may be benign or malignant but further testing would need to be performed on it (such as a needle aspirate or biopsy performed by your veterinarian). It has the appearance of a benign tumor but I cannot say for sure. In regards to the weight loss and not being able to hold his weight, there may be a number of causes for this such as cancer, systemic disease / infection, etc. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine George so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
