What is this bleeding eye growth on my senior dog? Vet urgent?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | West Highland White Terrier | Male | neutered | 11 years and 8 months old | 30 lbs

Hi my 11 year old Westie has a small growth in the outside corner of his right eye and was wondering if anyone had any information about what it might be and if it is urgent I see a vet. I initially thought it was just gunk and tried wiping it but this lead to whatever it is bleeding slightly. Thanks

Ouch! I would have the growth checked out by your vet to figure out what it is and get it treated. Until you can get to the vet, you can place an Elizabethan (cone) collar on Max to keep him from pawing at it and making it more irritated. You can also use a clean washcloth to gently remove any debris if there is buildup. If the area becomes rapidly worse, or is very bothersome to Max, having it seen sooner is best.
