My dog ate food from a bowl with acetone. Should I be worried?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 50 lbs

I had a bowl of food sitting on the table, and sat a paper towel with acetone on it in the bowl after removing my polish so I wouldn’t ruin the table. Let it sit there for at least 30 mins before getting in the shower and coming out to find the bowl on the floor and the food inside eaten. The paper towel looked untouched. Is my dog okay or should I be concerned? She seemed fine when I walked by.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. In terms of the acetone, that evapourates within about 1 minute so this would not have caused any problems to your dog. Just monitor and any weird signs bring Lucy to the vet, as she might have eaten some food that upset her stomach, but in terms of the acetone that is fine. Best of luck with Lucy!
