My dog ate metal wrapper, stuck in stomach. Is waiting too long?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 9 years and 9 months old | 10 lbs

my dog Swallowed a small piece of wrapper from a salami that has a small metal piece attached on 12/18. He started throwing up yellow bile for about four days I took him in on Saturday for x-rays which showed the object still in his stomach. He has been acting normal, he eats, drinks water he goes on walks and pees/poops fine but the object has not moved from the stomach after I took him to the vet once again this Monday, 12/24. Vet recommended to wait till Jan 2 but I’m afraid that’s too long.

Can you take Brody into another vet for a second opinion? Unfortunately I cannot give a definitive one since I can't see him in person. You may feel better speaking to another vet. Given that he's otherwise acting normal, I would agree with your vet you may be able to wait, but if he starts vomiting, has diarrhea, becomes anorexic, and/or very lethargic, then it cannot wait. I hope this helps!
