Why is my dog vomiting, lethargic, and has yellow eyes and dark urine?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 8 years and 8 months old | 65 lbs

My dog vomited yesterday and ever since he has been very lethargic. There is blood in his poor and his urine is dark brown. He can hardly walk now. He is an 8 year old Lab who is very fit. I fear the worst and think he has organ failure. I live in a remote part and getting to a vet is quite a distance. There is a yellow tinge to the whiter of his eyes and his guns are very pale. I am going to start my way to the vet now but if possible would appreciate your opinion. Thank you.

Oh my. This sounds like a possible severe condition. I suspect Sweep may have a condition called Addison's disease, liver disease, or even a coagulation problem. The vet will run some bloodwork to hopefully help make the diagnosis quickly so that he receives proper treatment. I do hope that you are truly on your way to the vet even if they are far away. Addison's disease can be treated successfully in most cases with steroid therapy, fluids, and supportive care. A coagulation problem may be treatable depending on the underlying condition, and liver disease may or may not treatable depending on the underlying cause. I hope that Sweep is able to make a full and speedy recovery at the vet. Best of luck and take care!
