My kitten had Giardia. Is her vomiting and diarrhea a sign it's back?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | 2 months and 28 days old | 1.81 lbs

My kitten before adoption was told she and her sister previously has Giardia but the vet gave them the final OK for them to be adopted as to how we adopted them and that they should be just fine. But I’ve noticed I’ve had some form of diarrhea in litter box and today for sure Luna has vomited 1 time today and shortly after vomiting she had watery diarrhea is it possible she has Giardia still? And vet over looked?

It's possible. It could also be the kittens are a bit stressed out from going to a new home. If you changed their diet when you adopted them, that can also cause GI upset which can lead to vomiting and diarrhea. If possible, continuing to give them their original food (or slowly switching to new) and giving them a day or two to settle in may help. If the diarrhea or vomiting continue, or worsen, then seeking out a veterinary exam to make sure the giardia hasn't returned or there is another underlying cause is best.
