My dog's pancreas levels are high. Did eating before blood work cause it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 4 years old | 72 lbs

Took my dog to the vets to check his eye. I asked if it was pannus. He said no. Gave me antibiotics. Took him back once out. Eye did not get better. Vet then told te me it was pannus. That he didn't see it the first time. Took blood to check for any other problems. Blood came back with high pancreas levels. Vet wanted to hospitalize him. But dog had no symptoms. Eats fine, poop perfect, playful, happy. Could the increase levels be from him eating an hour and a half before blood work?

Feeding him before blood tests is not ideal and can really influence tests results (especially if it is a snap test for pancreatitis). I would recommend to repeat the test with a quantitative one if possible before getting into hospitalisation and treatment which may not be needed.
