My cat won't use his new pellet litter box. How can I help?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Male | neutered | 13 years and 7 months old | 8 lbs

I got a new box system for my cat, and it has pellets instead of cat litter but now my cat won’t use the box, any ideas on how I can get him to use it?

It may take him some time to become acclimated to the new litter. You can try adding a litterbox attractant to get him back into the box. An example of one such product can be found by clicking the link below. https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/precious-cat-dr-elseys-ultra-litter-attractant

Some cats will not use the box. You can have one that loves it and one that hates it. I would recommend using a litter box that Charlie likes to avoid having urinary issues in your home. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
