My dog is lethargic, not moving from crate. Is it an emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 3 years old

Emma has been unusually lethargic and lazy for the last 2 days. She’s been eating, going to the bathroom, and walking normally. But she will spend the entire day in her crate and won’t move, not even for a treat. I know this vague, but due to the holidays the next available appt at the vet isn’t until after the new year and I’m not sure if I should take her to a hospital or wait til then. Just trying to find some peace of mind. Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately lethargy is a very common sign of many illnesses, which can include systemic illness, infection, inflammation, or injury. While it's good that she's eating, going to the bathroom, and walking normal, I think for your piece of mind it would be a good idea to take her into a hospital tonight. This has been going on for two days, and I believe you would feel better having her checked out. I'd take her in. Happy holidays.
