My neutered dog's penis bleeds after toy activity. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Border Collie | Male | neutered | 8 months and 1 day old | 49 lbs

We have a collie that was neutered 2 weeks ago. He has tried to be sexually active with his R2D2 stuffed toy today and is now dripping blood from his penis. This is the first time he has tried to be sexually active. We would take him to the vet but it is Christmas Day. He is not ill or licking it. Is this just from the op or should we be worried?

It would not be typical to see bleeding from the penis following a neuter surgery. I would actually worry that Henry might have a wound on his penis or even a urethral prolapse. If you see any more blood I would recommend seeing an emergency veterinarian. Either of these problems could get worse if not treated promptly.
