HEALTHSHARE Last question: Metrobactin Tablets 500mg 3/4 twice a day. hepatic whippet Dog with part of the liver not working properly was doing alright. Then given Metrobactin after a scan for 1 month dog develops fluid buildup in stomach and gets bigger until he had to be out down. Enquiring if this is true below: Do not use in case of hepatic disorders. As would this of caused the death of my dog? When he was unconscious for the scan he didn’t recover quickly, it was very very slow.

I am sorry for the loss of your dog. Anything is possible, but it is not likely the Metrobactin was solely responsible. The presence of fluid in the abdomen may have indicated severe liver disease which may have proved terminal. The slow recovery from anesthesia may have been due in part to the liver not functioning properly enough to clear anesthetic agents from the body.
