Kitten's declaw stitch popped. How to protect wound until vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | 7 months and 3 days old | 7 lbs

One of our kittens (7 month male) popped a declaw stitch and it opened a hole that bled. It stopped bleeding, but we’re worried about him getting debris in the wound. What can we do to protect the area until the vet’s office is open again?

Ouch, poor Starbuck! You can put a bandage over the hole, but make sure it's not too tight. Put an Ecollar on him to keep him from licking at the bandage. Best of luck. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ffR-LzyW1M
