My dog won't take Cyclosporine for perianal fistula. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | neutered | 3 years and 5 months old | 88 lbs

My German Shepherd has Perianal Fistula and he refuses to take his CycloSporine no matter how hard we try to disguise it. Will he die without it?

Hello, thank you for your question about Maximus. Although I cannot say for sure, I think it is unlikely that he will die if he doesn't receive this medication. However, without this medication his condition will not improve and could potentially worsen. I would recommend contacting your veterinarian to discuss potentially having this medication compounded into a liquid if possible. That way it might be easier to get Maximus to take the medication and can help keep him more comfortable. Hope this helps, good luck!
