Is my bird's red poop normal after egg binding and colored pellets?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Cockatiel | Female | unspayed

Are these feces normal for a bird on colored pellets? She went to the vet a few days ago for egg binding that caused diarrhea (egg was collapsed/removed, though some egg shell was stuck to her uterine wall) and the vet said she should be acting normal by Monday. I thought it wouldn't hurt to be paranoid here first.

thanks for reaching out about Gacy. The red color could definitely be due to colored pellets, The stool appears slightly loose, possibly a result of recent egg binding/retained shell, but also possible for a GI infection or other problem. If acting well, continue to monitor. Let our veterinarian know your concerns. Good luck.
