What to do if my kitten is wheezing, coughing, and sleeping a lot?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 2 months and 16 days old

We adopted a 9 week old kitten a couple of weeks ago. About four days ago, he started sneezing and watering in one eye. The symptoms seems to subside. Today, he is wheezing and coughing. We have a vaporizor going. Is there anything else we can do before taking him in to see a vet? He is sleeping quite a bit too

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Kirby. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian as he may have an upper respiratory tract infection based on the symptoms you have described. He will likely need antibiotics. Being a young kitten, he has a weakened immune system. In the meantime, you can turn the shower to hot and close the bathroom door. Allow the steam to build up in the room. Then place Kirby in there to breathe the warm humid air. This can lessen any congestion he may be experiencing. I hope this information helps!
