My cat's third eyelid still showing after surgery. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 6 years and 2 months old | 8 lbs

My cat had surgery four days ago and his third eye lid was showing when I picked him up. The vet said that it was due to stress and that it would go away after a few days. Well, it hasn’t. Should I be concerned?

If Landry is acting otherwise normally I would not be overly concerned. It may take a week or so to resolve if related to the surgical anesthesia. If no improvement after a week to 10 days I would suggest you have your vet recheck him. You didn't mention what type of surgery he had. If this was a dental surgery I would be more concerned that a facial nerve may have been disturbed. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Thank you for the reply. Sorry I did not see it sooner. It is possible that a nerve in the throat area was irritated which may be causing his issue. I think it is fine to give it a week or so to see if it resolves. If not, then a recheck with your vet is definitely warranted. Good plan! Happy Holidays!
