Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 11 years and 7 months old | 95 lbs
We have A 10 year old male Yellow Lab who has been diagnosed with a mast cell tumor just beneath his left eye. We have chosen to give palliative care as the cancer has spread to lymph nodes. His behavior and appetite has not deviated from the norm. He also has normal bowel movements, however his urine has a very pungent odor( the only thing that seems abnormal). This morning we noticed that the tumor has changed in color to a dark purple or even blackish. What could be happening??

I don't think the color of the tumor and the strong smelling urine are connected. The tumor is likely progressing which is why it is changing color. The urine may be more pungent due to some dehydration. Be sure he is drinking plenty of water. Are you giving him any medications at all? If so, the urine odor can be due to medication administration. If you would like to post with more information and/or some photos of the tumor we may be able to help better. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
