My dog found a slug. Can lungworm survive in its slime trail?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Dear Sir/Madam, We give our dog advocate but are a bit concerned (for both our dogs health and ourselves) as we found a slug in the house and are unaware how long it has been there (as it had crawled under a tin on the floor). It also had left a slime trail. Could you please tell us how long lungworm can survive in a slugs slime? Thank you

Lungworm larvae do not live in the slime of a slug. Your dog would need to eat the slug to get infected with lungworm (angiostrongylus spp) and the slug would need to be infected as well. I would not worry about it.
