My cat has a bite wound from his littermate. How do I care for it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 17 days old | 5 lbs

its definately a bite mark / irritation from biting because his brother (same litter) has been attempting to hump him biting the back of his neck / shoulders and all. There is a little fur caked in the wound but not horrible. How should I clean and care for the wound? Ps. They are going to be fixed in january that is the soonest I could get them in Pps. They are from the same litter. Both are male and about 5 1/2 months old

Cat bites often get infected and cause an abscess. I would leave it alone and check for swelling ever so often. If a swelling occurs, you need to take your cat to a veterinarian for an exam, evacuation and flushing of the abscess and some antibiotics. If not swelling occurs, it will likely just heal by itself.
