My new stray cat ate a lot of food. How much should I feed him?

I took in a stray cat today he has at 4 bowls of food and drank a whole bowman of water and is very thirsty but he is pretty hefty I'm not sure what to do. Pet's info: Cat | British Shorthair | Male | unneutered

Do not feed him again until tomorrow morning. Then feed him a second time in the evening. 1/2 can of wet food each feed. Make sure he has plenty of water available. He may have been outside for a while and possibly has not eaten for a while and now was ravenous.
