My nursing cat is sneezing. How to treat her safely with kittens?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Himalayan | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 7 months old

I noticed she started sneezing ,not much but she does, although I keep her in a warm place , heat on all time, noting that she’s nursing still , her kittens are 1 week old today only. How can we treat or fix this without affecting the kittens? I don’t think taking her to vet is good at this time. It’s very cold outside and I don’t want to make it worse in case this was nothing major

Cats don't usually sneeze when it is cold outside. I think an upper respiratory infection is more likely. They are common in cats. Most are viral and must run their course. Sometimes they can get a bacterial infection that causes poor appetite, thick nasal or eye discharge, coughing, etc. These need antibiotics. Other possible causes for sneezing include something stuck in the nose (like a blade of grass) or a nasopharyngeal polyp. If the sneezing seems to bother Habla, then I would recommend that you have her examined by a vet. You can put mama and babies in a small box or cat kennel for the trip so they can stay together.
