My kitten is scared of loud noises. How can I help her adjust?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Ragdoll | Female | spayed | 5 months and 20 days old

I got a Ragdoll kitten about a month or so ago, and i introduced my house's rooms very slowly, and we moved at her pace around the house. She has always been scarid of downstairs bc i have 4 other siblings (the yougest is 1 year and the oldest is 10, so they are still all very loud). She is scaird to go downstairs or even out if my bedroom. How do i get her to be okay with the noise? Thanks, and happy holidays!

You are doing a good job. As long as she has a quiet place in your room with food, water and litter, and a soft place to sleep then I wouldn’t worry about it. Leave the door open and she will start to explore other rooms on her own, often at night when it’s quieter. Gradually at her own pace she’ll come out and be with everyone. This may take several months but pushing her sooner may just make her more afraid. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Ella.
