My dog was bit, small punctures, acting normal. Do I need a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My dog got bit by another dog. I pulled the other dog off quickly but he does have a few small puncture marks (less than a cm wide or deep). He is acting normal. I cleaned the marks and put antibiotic ointment on him. Should I be concerned? Is it serious where I should take him to the vet? The picture attached is the worst of the marks.

Ouch! I would take him to the vet just in case as there may be other puncture marks hidden by hair, or the wounds may need to be cleaned more deeply and given a course of antibiotics and pain meds to prevent infection and discomfort. I would also keep an Elizabethan (cone) collar on King if it doesn't rub against any wounds to prevent him from bothering them and causing more irritation.
