Is it normal if my dog only uses front paws to swim, not back legs?

When my Roxy beagle swims she only uses her front paws to swim. Is this normal?

Its pretty normal. We call that the dog paddle. Not every dog instinctively knows how to kick with their back feet. As long as she is remaining afloat and walks normal when out of the water, I would not be concerned. Also at this age you would suspect she may have some arthritis and it may be painful to kick her back feet. Joint supplements over the counter can be considered if you suspect some arthritis. I prefer Dasuquin, Rejuvenate or Cosequin which most are available online. Best of luck with your pet Roxy moving forward. Take care!
