Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 4 years and 7 months old | 18 lbs

My dog augie is acting as though his back left paw hurts specifically on one toe, we shaved the fur to look at it and the only outward Mark's are his nail looks a little rough and theres so pinkness to the skin around that toe. What do you think it could be and what can we do to help him at home?

If it just started you can let Augie rest for a few days with minimal walking and minimal physical exercise, if it does not improve within 3-4 days you will have to take him to the vet in order to get it checked and treated, he might need pain killers for a few days. if the vet think it's something more serious such as a fracture, joint injury or foreign body, he might recommend to have an xray done as well.
