Why is my dog vomiting and having runny black, bloody stools?

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund (Miniature Smooth Haired) | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 6 months old | 5 lbs

My 2 year old dachsund is having runny black and bloody stools. The day previously she threw up all day. why is this?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Diarrhea and vomiting can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. When there is evidence of black stools that can be a sign of gastrointestinal ulceration for example. recommend that you have Pepper evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They may choose to check for parasites and to start medications for diarrhea depending on the results. Good luck! Hoping for a speedy recovery!
