How can I tame 3 parakeets that have lived together for 1 year?

Thanks for reaching out. The best way to train birds is through positive reinforcement. There is a good book title "A Guide to a Well Behaved Parrot" that is a great starting point. Start slow as with offering treats by hand, but not forcing the issue. It does take time to win trust, so be persistent. Good luck.

    Thanks for reaching out about Gizmo. The only answer is to continue to work with them to win their trust again. It will take time to untrain previously learned behavior and fears. There is a good reference book, " A guide to a well behaved parrot". Good luck.

It is difficult to describe and diagnose behavioral concern without visualizing what is going on. Not all birds are tame. Some just too scared. See if they will come out of their cage on their own (leave door open). They might be more protective of their cage, and less so outside. Good luck.

Thanks for reaching out and including photos. The difficulty is winning the trust of these small birds. Try offering treats by hand and then encouraging them to step up to gain the reward. Even using a small diameter perch to step up and then remove them from the cage. Many birds are cage protective and personalities with mellow once out of the cage. Keep all movements slow, noises quiet, and lights low. A book titled " A Guide to a Well Behaved Parrot" has some useful information. Good luck.

How do i tame my parakeets
Gradually acclimate them to your presence. Do this by sitting next to the cage for ever increasing periods of time. Initially, tbey will flutter about or move to the far side of the cage. Move slowly and speak softly during this time. End each session with a small treat or reward. Once they have accepted your presence, you can place a hand inside the cage. Be sure all doors and windows are closed and any fans are off. Theywill panic and flutter about again. As in the first step, start with short periods of time and slowly increase as theyaccepts you in his space. Make no attempt to touch or hold them. Allow them to approach you if they are curious. Praise and reward them after each session. Once they begins to show real interest, you can teach them to perch on your finger. Slowly place an extended finger at chest level and say "perch" or "step up" while pressing against the chest. When the bird is comfortable, he/she will hop up on to your finger. I have two budgerigar parakeets, and I have done nothing to scare them and yet for about 2 months now, they have been so scared of me, there flight time is all day too and I have 16 windows so they have plenty of V D, they always hang out on my wind
