My cockatiel is quiet, shivering, and sleeping a lot. Is she sick?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Cockatiel | Female | 9 months and 17 days old

My cockatiel which I have owned for 7 months and 27 days is showing some signs of illness. She normally is rather loud, screaming a lot mostly. However she has become rather quiet as if recently. She shivers a bit. (I’m going to test if that the temperature of the room or not) she occasionally sleeps majority of the day, she sleeps in odd places where she wouldn’t before. And her feathers sometimes are rather ruffled However she shows no major signs of being sick eg discharge of nose, etc

Those are all very general signs that could indicate Quill isn't feeling well, especially since birds are very good at hiding illnesses until its too late. If the temperature in her room checks out OK and she is still showing symptoms, it wouldn't hurt to bring her to a vet just in case to rule out any issues. Taking note of any other changes, such as to stool consistency, eating habits, etc can also help clue you in (and your vet) to possible issues.
