Why is my cat's stomach moving fast? Could it be labored breathing?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 1 year and 3 months old | 10 lbs

Starting last night I noticed that my cats stomach was moving in and out real fast, almost as if she was convulsing ... she almost looks anorexic when her stomach goes in as far as it does ... it’s still happening right now & I don’t know what’s wrong ... I tried adding a video to show what was happening but it won’t let me.

Poor Cecelia. It sounds like she may be abdominal breathing which means she is having difficulty breathing and this could potential be an emergency. I would take her to your vet ASAP to be examined. They will be able to listen to her heart and lungs and watch her breathe. If needed they may want to take chest x-rays to see what her heart and lungs look like. I hope this helps and she feels better soon!
