Are brown spots on my 5-month-old kittens' gums normal or concerning?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 6 lbs

I recently discovered some brown spots and bumps on my two 5-month-old kittens' gums. They don't seem to be bothered by them at all and they're eating completely normally. They've also only lived with us about 2 months and I don't remember if these were there before. One cat has it on both sides of his gum and the other has only one side. I've attached one photo of the brown gum and one photo of the (only) healthy side of the gum.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! in a young kitten, this is likely just a change in pigmentation and not a big concern. I would not be too concerned about this unless you ever notice a mass effect or it seems to be causing any discomfort. Best of luck!
