Puppy has diarrhea, not eating, and quivering after lake play?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Male | 11 months and 6 days old | 17 lbs

Hi there, My 6 month old corgi woke up fine today and went to the bathroom normally. I put him in his kennel for a bit while I worked then I took him to the park to play. We walked around and then he played in the lake water for just a little bit (we live in Austin, TX) Since getting home he has had diarrhea and not really eating his food. While eat some treats but that’s it. He seemed anxious and I found him in our closest with his back legs quivering. Now he’s just sleeping!

Hi there! Sorry to hear that Gumbo is not feeling well. The clinical signs you describe are concerning when they occur in a puppy as they can be seen with serious gastrointestinal infections such as Parvovirus. Other possibilities include intestinal worms and dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. The sooner these conditions are treated the better the outcome tends to be. For this reason, I recommend that you have Gumbo evaluated by your veterinarian to check for these possibilities and to start therapy based on findings. At the very least they can address dehydration if present and start him on medications to make him feel better. Good luck! Keeping my fingers crossed for your boy!
