Why is my dog not eating and staying in one spot after guests?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 5 years and 6 months old | 9.5 lbs

Kobe was fine all day until we had company this afternoon. The woman that was here he kept laying by her feet. Now he is in that area and won’t leave it. I pick him up and put on my lap like he usually does and leaves me and goes back to the same spot. Nose is cold and wet and I felt all over to see if maybe he is hurt somewhere but nothing. Not eating except my husband gave him a couple tiny pieces of chicken he is laying in the same area and does not shut his eyes at all. What could it be?

I am not sure. It isn't typical of any specific disease process. I would recommend that you continue to monitor Kobe's behavior, appetite, urination/defecation, etc. If he continues to act abnormally it is a good idea to have him examined by a vet. The temperature or moisture level of the nose doesn't mean much to us vets! Just depends on if the air is warm or cold and how long it has been since they licked their nose!
