My Dachshund suddenly limping, crying, and won't walk. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Male | neutered | 10 years and 5 months old | 18 lbs

My Dachshund was laying down, had been fine all day. He heard my wife get up and he usually gets excited and gets up really fast and runs to see her. He did that but began crying and holding his back left leg up and is limping and does nto want to walk.

Hi! Thanks for entrusting us with Copper's care today! Lameness can be a sign of a few things that range from a muscle sprain to even a fracture. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian so that this can be further assessed which will likely include radiographs. Treatment will be dependent on findings though at the very least pain control medications can be prescribed. Good luck! Hoping for a speedy recovery!
