Dog diarrhea won't stop, mucus in poop, but acting normal. Vet time?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Eskimo Dog | Male | neutered | 10 years old | 30 lbs

Sat night Brody woke us up 2x to go outside & poop (he never does this) - both times diarrhea. Sun he ate & drank as normal but didnt poop at all. Sun night he had diarrhea 2x & then 2x again in middle of night. I removed all food & treats Sun night & began rice diet. Today diarrhea 3x already - most recent looks to have mucus in it. Otherwise he’s been playing & acting fine. No vomit. Still rice diet. Should we be concerned? Also we found out Fri he has bladder stones (any relation?)

I can’t immediately see a connection between the bladder stones and the diarrhea. Some types of bladder stones are linked to liver disease which can cause diarrhea, but we would need a bit more information - at least some blood work - to make that connection. At this point you’ve done a good job of implementing the “easy” fixes, and Brody’s diarrhea isn’t going away. I usually recommend seeing your vet for diarrhea that lasts more than 24 hours and doesn’t respond to a bland diet, and I would in this case as well.
