Puppy jumped, crying, not putting weight on leg. What to do until vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 15 days old | 5 lbs

My black lab puppy ( 8 weeks ) jumped off the couch tonight and is crying in agony. She is not putting any weight on her back left leg. She is whimpering and crying every time she moves. I tried to get her to lay down but she keeps hobbling around the house crying. I am getting her to a vet in the morning but what should I do until then?

Poor Bayonette! Rest her. No running, jumping, or playing. Confine her to a crate or a small room to limit her movement. Take her out to potty on a leash, and bring her right back in when she's done. Do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Having her see the vet in the morning is the right thing to do. I hope this helps.
