Can guinea pigs give ringworm to humans? What to do with pets?

My father has gotten a massive infection inside his knee after having ring worm on his skin after dr said it was from guinea pigs. He’s been hospitalized for over a month. He’s still in recovery. What should I do about my guineas anc in your option is the skin disorder my dad got from guides pigs and Also I can’t find it in my heart to rehome them. Very concerned.please help with your option as I don’t believe it could be from them. Pet's info: Small Animal | Guinea Pig | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 4 months old | 1lb

Ringworm is highly contagious and you can get it from animals, but I've personally never heard of ringworm leading to a massive infection. Keep in mind, though, that I'm not a human doctor so I can't comment on this. It's certainly possible your dad got the ringworm from them, but I can't say whether or not that lead to the infection. Only a human doctor can answer that. Best of luck.
