My dog is in pain, crying, and panting after boarding. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 4 years and 2 months old | 75 lbs

My dog is crying in pain. Holding tail low between legs almost. He tries to lie down can’t get comfortable and moves same thing. Panting. Nearly bit my son as my son touched his back/tail area. Obviously in pain. Was just boarded and had a bath. He’s a coonhound mix 4yo NM

Poor Rufus! Unfortunately there are no OTC pain medications you can give him, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. I'd take him into a vet as soon as possible to be checked out and get pain medication. If he's extremely painful, I'd rush him into an ER vet. Until he sees the vet, rest him as much as possible. Take him out to potty on a leash, and bring him right back in when he's done. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
