My dog ate chicken with garlic & onion powder. Should I call the vet?

Dog ate fried chicken tender with very thick coating ingredients say garlic powder and onion powder. Should I go to ER? My dog is 55 pounds approximately and 5 years old

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is unlikely to be an issue in terms of the garlic and onion powder as it was just a bit. This may result though in gastrointestinal upset. Watch your pup for symptoms consistent with gastrointestinal upset such as vomiting, inappetence and/or diarrhea. If these are observed, have your pup evaluated by a veterinarian. Best of luck!

    Garlic powder could be extremely toxic especially if combined with onion powder which is toxic as well. Signs can start with gastrointestinal diarrhoea and vomiting but develop in more severe ones like anemia. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm/rule out these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed.
